My new passion for winter sports
When I was still competing professionally, it was always too risky to try new sports like volleyball or skiing, as I had to be very careful with my joints and hands. Nonetheless, the winter vacations with my family were still yearly highlights for me – the speed of alpine skiing fascinated me from a very young age. Under the circumstances however, I limited my winter sports almost entirely to cross-country-skiing. Even then, I remember well that I still managed to break my thumb.
These days, I don’t have to worry as much about injuries and I can fully enjoy discovering new passions, like snowboarding.
Snowboarding is a totally new challenge for me, that I enjoy very much. The speed and dynamics of the sports as well as the outdoor experience and the beautiful snowy landscape fascinate me. Some ski-runs/slopes in the US are a lot less crowded than in the Alps. That way it can happen that you don’t even see any other person on your way downhill. It is just a great feeling to be outdoors and in the wonderful fresh air.

Allerherzlichste Glückwünsche zum Jubeltag,
Ich hoffe es wird ihnen dieses Glück und die Freude die sie uns mit ihren Matches
gemacht haben in vollen Zügen zurückgegeben.
Meine Tochter ist gerade 15 und spielt auch schon Landesliga,und erinnert mich viel
an ihre Tenniszeit.
Weiter wird sie aber nicht mehr kommen,da in Deutschland das Prinzip gilt,
wenn du nichts hast kannst du nichts werden.
Leider müssen Eltern von guten Tennis Spielern arbeiten(Trainingsgeld),und haben keine Zeit mit ihren Kids auf Tunieren rum zu Fahren.Das lässt viele gute scheitern.
Aber wir lassen uns nicht unterkriegen.
Feiern sie die Feste wie sie kommen mit Andre und ihren Kids bleiben sie Gesund
und so wie jetzt im Sozialen Bereich tätig.

I’m just sad seeing you in your new sport when i haven’t even had a chance to watch you play tennis in person…no, just kidding, it’s just that my timing of going to Australia in 1999 is not a good one, i would have thought that i will have finally get the chance of going to AO and watch you play…but, alas! you retired…and so the dream remains up to this day:)
Wondering if either you or Andre have ever heard or played Platform tennis? It is a very fun and popular outdoor Winter sport played here in Chicago and out East. It is a small tennis court surrounded by chicken wire played with small paddles where the the ball can’t easily be put away. Only played as doubles, the points can go on for a long time due to the screens which can be played off. Like a combo of squash and tennis. Very strategic and fun to play even in a snowstorm.

Du bist jetzt wahrscheinlich in Deinem Haus im Süden der USA.
Da ist jetzt das Wetter wahrscheinlich super.
Ich bin hier in Deutschland und das Wetter ist hier leider nicht so gut und ich habe leider keine Möglichkeit dem schönen Wetter nach zu fliegen.
