Getting Involved with Tennis
In addition to being a lot of fun, tennis is great exercise for both mind and body. It develops aerobic and anaerobic fitness, works very major muscle group, extends flexibility and challenges players to think strategically.
I am often asked how one gets started in the sport and here in the States, the USTA has been working for some time now to make it easier for people of all ages and skill levels to connect with the sport and find games in their area.
Over 330,000 players, from all walks of life and from all over the country, play in the USTA leagues. They have also recently started a program for those 10 and under which makes some changes to the size of the court and offers special rackets and balls so that kids can start playing the game at a very young age.
By way of comparison, the Little League season for baseball is just getting started and as I watch my son participate, I am impressed by how well youth baseball is organized. The game is set up to gradually become more challenging as their skills develop from t-ball to real pitching and hitting. Thus, the league has done a great job of maximizing participation and interest in the sport as well as teaching kids a lot about teamwork as well as developing their individual skills. Coming from a country where baseball is not as prominent, I have sure learned a lot myself.
The USTA’s Leagues and especially their Ten and Under tennis campaign are, in my opinion, well designed to do the same for tennis. With this program and many others being employed around the world I anticipate and am very excited to watch enthusiasm for the sport grow internationally.

Thank you Stefanie for considering my request and reading our posts as well. Agree that the new initiative to promote tennis for 10 and under kids is a great idea. My daughter for sure did not enjoy tennis when it was played in a similar way like adults, will try and see if she likes this format better as it is a good sport for exercise and endurance.
Hello Stefanie
In the united states they have been advances in the competitive side of it as i have seen alot of success from the americans while i was growing up. In the uk it is different and i do not know why in some sports such as football or tennis they don’t seem to do well in the big tournaments even though they have the talent and potential to do so, it might be down to how they prepare for the big occasion.. I have seen sports from other countries that are much better and especially those from the poor countries as they always do ever so well in athletics and other sports.
During the 1980′s it was so exciting to see germany become the leading challengers in tennis and players from other parts of europe made the game very entertaining to watch and to my opinion you gave an amazing and outstanding contribution to the sport of tennis.
wishing you and your family alot of happiness
