Sports and Success
We all learned very early on that exercising can lead to a healthy body. Regular physical exercise strengthens our muscles and bones, it burns calories and strengthens our immune system against a lot of diseases like stroke, diabetes or even cancer. But did you know that sports also helps to become mentally fit and helps to be successful at your job, with your studies or helps overcome daily obstacles?
Scholars have conducted a study with school students and found out that students, who worked out 2-3 times a week, passed their exams (especially language and reading) significantly better than students who did not exercise (Taras, H , “Physical activity and student performance at school,” Journal of School Health 75: 214 – 218, 2005). The students exercised for 20-30 minutes on the aerobic level in the morning, such as jogging or ball games. In the afternoon they did strengthening exercises for another 20-30 minutes. Through the regular exercise especially the oxygen feed improved and led to a higher productivity of the brain. The students got better grades – applied to our everyday life regular exercise can lead to better decision-making-ability, productivity and well being.
Stefanie Graf can relate to these findings:
Sports has, since I was very young, shaped my life. Also nowadays, when my everyday life is filled with my children, the work for my foundation and my business commitments, I really appreciate how good excercise is for me. I try to take the time to work out 4-5 times a week for each 45 minutes and I look forward to my “time-outs”. The training gives me the possibility to get away from it all, to alleviate stress, to structure my thoughts and to reflect about my day, the week or a special moment. I can make decisions easier, I feel stronger and ready for everything that might come.
For that reason doing sports shouldn’t be just out of motivation for physical fitness. Sport does more – it improves your memory and decision making ability as well as your ability to concentrate through better oxygen feed. Sport helps to make your life a little bit more efficient, more productive and more aware. A day full of meetings and important decisions could be started with a walk or with the bike instead of the car. Who knows- maybe you can master the challenges easier than you thought.
Stefanie Graf:
Sport has given me so much in my life – not only concerning my physical fitness, but also regarding the mental strength, that I gain through exercising every day. I am convinced that sport can change your life and help foster personal success in many other areas of your life.

Absolutely relate with the fact that sport gives a holistic development to an individual. I think it has the power to mould a person and build competencies such as leadership, teamwork, decision making, professionalism to name a few…as well as crucial values like honesty, integrity & respect.
