Billie Jean King in South Africa
I have known and been in contact with Billie Jean King, who I have always admired, for many years. We have often discussed our experiences with our respective foundations. Thus I was especially pleased when Ms. King took the opportunity to visit our Children for Tomorrow project in the townships of Langa in South Africa in December. There, our project leader welcomed her in our cultural center and besides the CfT team she also met several directors from surrounding schools, in which our foundation offers therapeutical prevention programs.
King’s visit was just in time for our foundations’ annual “Holiday Program,” which serves to strengthen the psychological and social capabilities of the children during the holiday season. Billie Jean also took some time to attend the final concert of the program – an annual highlight for all and this year especially, because Billie Jean insisted on dancing with the children.
