Australian Open Recap – Spectacular!
Congratulations to this years’ Australian Open winners Serena Williams and Roger Federer!
Like Kim Clijsters at the US Open 2009, Justine Henin came very close to shocking the world with a Grand Slam title at the start of her comeback. However, Henin’s remarkable accomplishment was stopped just a bit short by Williams’ Australian Open three set victory(6:4, 3:6, 6:2), which Serena fought for with incredible power and mental strength. I thought it was great to see Justine so relaxed and happy despite her defeat. More importantly, it is good to know that we can expect a really enhanced level of play from the women in the coming year.
In another interesting development for the sport, the two Chinese players Li Na and Zheng Jie made it to the semifinals. This seemingly has already raised the popularity of tennis in China.
On the men’s side, Murray was as close to his first Grand Slam victory as he has been since the US Open finals in 2008. After an embattled match, 6:3, 6:4, 7:6 (13:11), the player with more steady nerves was rewarded.
It was also not easy to see when injuries eliminated hopeful top-players such as Del Potro or Nadal. This year’s Australian Open tournament has shown one thing very clearly: winning a Grand Slam requires an outstanding level of lay but excellent physical condition and confidence are also very important. Staying calm in crucial moments – that is what makes a champion.

You have to answer for one of our question!
We saw a profile on FACEBOOK,is it really you or someone posted on your name?
Thanking you,
Hi Steffi,
Yes, it was a Spectacular Australian Open !
BTW, did you notice my prediction that Roger and Serena would be the big winners in the Australian Open ? I hate to brag, but I told you all so …. even if it was just three days before the final.
And I think that awesome third set tiebreaker between Roger and Andy was the longest tiebreaker in the history of the Australian Tennis Open Championships and the second longest tiebreaker ever anywhere played in a major men’s final !
Only the epic Bjorn Borg – John McEnroe 34 point battle of 18 – 16 tiebreaker in the 1980 Wimbledon final lasted longer !
Do you remember that one?
As you said, Steffi, I agree that winning a Grand Slam tournament requires an outstanding level of lay, and with that, excellent physical conditioning and confidence are very important, too ! And that staying calm in crucial moments is what makes a Champion !
Whatever happens, DON’T PANIC is wise advice !
Especially in Tiebreakers !
Steffi, your remarks are wonderful. But,you gotta specify this : Serena Williams stopped Justine’s remarkable comeback in just Australian Open. Justine is gonna continue her wonderful tennis and when she acclimate,i think ; nobody will stop her. Nevertheless,i agree with you. We can see enhanced tennis in this season and it’s good to know.
Roger won his 16th Grand Slam title and i believe,he isn’t a person!! He might be an alien!!
Congratulations to two champions.. Steffi,we would like to see your wonderful comments on Roland Garros..
Hi Steffi,
Loved AO 2010 – lots of excellent tennis! Roger played some of his best tennis in the final. Wish him a calendar-year Slam! It was a pity Justin lost in the final. With her reignited desires Justin, together with Kim made women’s tennis so much more interesting!
Congratulations to you too, for being elected “female sports role model”! Well-deserved Champion!
