Fast $8 Millionen USD beim 14. Grand Slam For Children
Die Engelstad Family Foundation spendet zusätzlich 7,5 Millionen US-Dollar
Durch die Änderungen von Namen, Logo und Internet-Auftritt der Stiftung wird der neuen Ausrichtung in Bildung und Erziehung Rechnung getragen.
Die Andre Agassi Foundation for Education (AAFE) erziehlte nahezu 8 Millionen US-Dollar beim 14. Grand Slam for Children Wohltätigkeitskonzert und konnte daneben den Erhalt einer zusätzlichen Spendenzusage von 7,5 Millionen US-Dollar der Engelstad Family Foundation verkünden, die über die nächsten fünf Jahre gezahlt wird.
Am Samstag, den 26. September fand der Gand Slam mit einer Star-Besetzung von Künstlern im Wynn Las Vegas statt. Unter ihnen Lionel Richie, Tim McGraw, Dane Cook, Daughtry, Brian McKnight, Macy Gray, Frank Caliendo und Charice Pempengco, die unter der musikalischen Leitung von David Foster auftragen. Zuvor war bereits der Gewinner von “America’s Got Talent”, bei einer Grand Slam Vorabendshow am Freitag, den 25. September aufgetreten. Im Konzert am Samstag kam es zu zwei Überraschungsduetten des Daughtry Sängers Cris Daughtry mit McGraw und Cook.
In Andre´s Rede beim Grand Slam, präsentierte er den neuen Namen seiner Stiftung, das neugestaltete Logo und die Website, die zusammen die neue Ausrichtung auf die Aufgaben und Ziele der Stiftung hervorheben: Bildungschancen für sozial benachteiligte Kinder zu schaffen. Das Vorzeigeprojekt der Stiftung ist die “Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy”, eine öffentliche Schule in Las Vegas, die 2001 gegründet wurde.
Andre sagte hierzu: „ Wussten Sie, dass die Rate der High School-Abschlüsse in diesem Land gerade einmal 69 Prozent beträgt? Und in Nevada nur 47? Und wussten Sie auch, dass in der Agassi Prep 100 Prozent der Absolventen dieses Jahr ihren Abschluss gemacht haben?“
Unter großem Applaus präsentierte er die “Sponsor Our Students Campaign at Agassi Prep”-Kampagne, welche die Lücke zwischen der unzureichenden Förderung des Staates Nevada– in der Rangliste auf Platz 49 in den Vereinigten Staaten und dem Bedarf für einen jeden Schüler schließen soll. Dies gelingt vor allem durch die Großzügigkeit der Engelstad Familie, die sich bereiterklärt hat, die Hälfte der gesamten Finanzierung aller 600 Schüler für die kommenden fünf Jahren zu tragen. Sponsoren für 267 Schüler für das erste Jahr und zusätzliche Sponsorships von weitere 435 Schüler in den darauf folgenden Jahren wurden am diesem Abend gespendet.
“Ich bin überwältigt von der sagenhaften Unterstützung, die wir beim diesjährigen Grand Slam erhalten haben”, sagte Andre.
“Die unglaubliche Menge an Künstlern, die ihre Zeit und ihr Können in den Dienst des Sache gestellt haben, wie auch die Großzügigkeit der Engelstad Family Foundation und aller unserer Förderer machen dies zu einem strahlenden Augenblick. Auch bin ich stolz, unseren neuen Namen, das Logo und die Website präsentieren zu können, die wesentlich prägnanter unsere erzieherische Mission verdeutlichen.“
Die Veranstaltung endete mit einem energiegeladenen Auftritt von Lionel Richie, die das gesamte Publikum zum Tanzen brachte.

The two little kids in the photo are so very cute! I’m very happy for Andre and his foundation (and you) that the fundraiser was so successful. I still have to make time and send my little donation by snail mail (wish I could afford that $50,000 trip with you and Dre…oh, well…I’ll settle for Andre’s upcoming book).
As I’ve written before, I truly admire what you and your husband care about — from family (especially family!!!) to education to breast health to the emotional needs of young victims of war. Being human beings I’m sure both you and Andre have your own problems, but I still consider you two to be positive role models (a compliment that I rarely give).

I wrote above that I consider both Stefanie and Andre to be respected role models. I’ve thought about that written comment since reading about Andre’s honest biography “reveals” (and some of the negative publicity surrounding them). I stand by my comments.
Yeah, it is disappointing that Andre lied about his drug use in 1997 to save his tennis career, but right or wrong, we’ve all had moments were we acted and reacted in ways that we’re not proud of. I can’t cast stones at another person for being human — failings along with the beautiful and caring side! I’m human, too, and full of failings. So, no stones will ever be cast from this LA girl!
Also, Andre’s experiences can help others. Second chances ARE possible. Change is possible. For most people, it will be a tough road, still don’t give up. “When a door closes…and window opens…”
Once again, I tip my hat to you both, and yes, I’m still up for that donation to a future political campaign.
