Children helping Children
In a lot of kindergartens and elementary schools in the US children grow up with a profound awareness for charitable engagement. Charity has become a regular part of school cirriculums. They are being motivated, because they can achieve something with their own projects and of course they learn social responsibility.
At the foundation Children for Tomorrow, which helps children and their families who are victims of war and persecution, about the aims of we try hard to inform about the importance of this sort of work and hopefully also raise awareness about the hardships of the people in the poorest countries of the world. But charity isn’t just for other countries. It is also important to direct one’s attention on local issues right outside our doors.
At the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy, a school in Las Vegas that was founded by my husband, like many schools, they put a lot of emphasis in fostering charitable values and regular charitable work. For example, students at the Agassi Prep School are helping to build a playground for a neighboring kindergarten and planting trees to create a greener environment. It makes me very happy to see the commitment and dedication in these children.

Dear Steffi,
I just wanted you to know, that I miss you every grand slam season, esplly wimbledon. You don’t know how much you are admired in my family and how tense I used to be when you played and fought hard for victories.
I miss you so much, and will remain your die hard fan whether I ever see you playing or not. These days I am in your first country ie Germany on a fellowship from the city council of Munich. And I think of you a lot. I have stopped watching Tennis now, but kept thinking of you and the Rolland Garros.
All the best Steffi, I know you do best in whatever you choose to do,
Arundhati
Good for Agassi Prep and the teachers and administrators who design the programs!!!! Those kids are so lucky. Volunteerism and giving makes a positive impact on all agekids (as you mention) as well as adults! Also, colleges LOVE to read that on applications/resumes.
My kids attend a public high school in a neighborhood where there’s a nice multicultural mix with all kinds of projects deserving and needing help (being near Sony Pictures, we get corporate support from them). The kids don’t need to volunteer locally, but instead can choose a cause of their own. Every high school student must put in 10 hours per year for 9th and 10th grade, and then twice that per year for the last two years.
My daughter has helped a family friend who is a teacher in the severely challenged Compton School District here in LA County! Her choice was especially moving to us since this elementary school had experienced a police shoot out a couple of years ago that traumatized the kids, and left a lot of physical reminders of the near tragedy with bullet holes in the buildings, playground equipment, etc. At first, I wasn’t that happy about the choice, but over time I appreciate that she wanted to work in an area that many adults hesitate to visit. It’s a burden with the heavy academics plus the after school participation in music that my daughter does, but it leaves such a positive impact on the kids.
I’m impressed to see that Agassi Prep is community conscious. Especially in the economic climate of today. It’s even more important to give now when it’s not so easy.
p.s. These “anti-spam” words crack me up! So far, they’ve mostly been tennis related.
Dear Stefanie,
it’s since 1991 that we are proud to be your “special fans” and also after August 1999 we are happy to see you playing for Charity and gave us the possibility to help Children. Let us know the next European programme for the exibithins match for your fondation and we organized our “trip” as in the past!!!
Thanks for all .
